This project is an interactive data-driven story map that visualizes the ecological footprint of Indonesia's massive nickel industrialization. While the global energy transition drives the demand for electric vehicles, this expansion heavily impacts vital ecosystems at the local level. Focusing on crucial regions like Sulawesi, Halmahera (North Maluku), and Papua, this platform guides users through a geographic narrative that highlights the alarming intersection between mining concessions and primary rainforests.

Pantau Mineral Kritis is an interactive research and mapping platform that investigates the environmental, social, and political dimensions of Indonesia’s critical mineral expansion. The platform focuses on nickel industrialization, mining concessions, smelter development, coal dependency, and global electric vehicle supply chains. The platform integrates interactive maps, supply chain tracing, actor mapping, industrial infrastructure analysis, and environmental impact documentation to reveal how critical mineral extraction reshapes ecosystems, communities, and energy systems across Indonesia. Through spatial storytelling and data-driven investigation, the project connects mining activities with deforestation, industrial energy demand, coal-fired power dependence, land conflicts, biodiversity risks, and global green transition narratives. The platform aims to strengthen transparency, public awareness, and ecological accountability within the rapidly growing critical minerals sector.
